Avian Husbandry Internship

The Avian Husbandry Internship provides hands-on experience rehabilitating Sacramento’s wild avian species in our seasonal nursery. Interns will work alongside staff and volunteers to complete tasks related to avian husbandry. They will learn the necessary care and handling of hatchlings to adults. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn about the nutritional, behavioral, medical needs that encompass working with wild birds in a rehabilitation setting.

Triage Wildlife Internship

The Triage Internship provides hands-on experience rehabilitating Sacramento’s native species in a high-volume facility. Interns will work alongside staff and volunteers to complete tasks related to animal husbandry, wildlife medicine, and animal handling. Interns will work with a wide variety of animals and learn about the nutritional, behavioral, medical needs that encompass working with wildlife in a rehabilitation setting. While this program is intended for experienced volunteers, those with prior wildlife or animal-related experience are encouraged to apply (please refer to qualifications below).

Junior Wildlife Internship

The Junior Wildlife Internship provides a brief overview of wildlife rehabilitation and the community engagement that is necessary to protect native species. While no direct animal handling is involved, interns will have the opportunity to learn about the nutritional, behavioral, and medical needs that encompass working with wildlife. Interns will also shadow staff and volunteers in how to accept intakes and advise the public on how to cohesively live with local wildlife. Interns will also be expected to complete a project related to enrichment or public education on an animal native to the Sacramento region.
