Big Day of Giving

May 2

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE BIG DAY OF GIVING

From midnight to 11:59 p.m. on May 2!

Because so many in our region care about the nonprofits that lift up the Sacramento region, generosity will be everywhere during Big Day of Giving on Thursday, May 2.

In six years, caring people in our community have raised over $30 million for nearly 600 organizations on Big Day of Giving. Last year, our region’s annual giving day generated $7.4 million. We believe we can top that this year, and we want you to be a part of the movement!

At Wildlife Care Association, we are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of local wildlife. WCA is committed to educating and instructing the community in the respect, appreciation, and care of local wildlife. WCA is pledged to the management and preservation of wildlife habitat.—and, with your support during Big Day of Giving on May 2, we will grow our impact in this community.

What is Big Day of Giving?

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s Big Day of Giving is a once-annual 24-hour giving challenge to help over 600 local nonprofits raise funds to make a difference in the Sacramento region. It’s the culmination of an entire year’s worth of community-building and collaboration, made possible by donors like you.

Our Needs

– Our largest need is for financial assistance to help cover our largest expense: payroll; this ensures the animals brought to us are properly cared for and equates to about $110,000 per year with expected increases.

– Our second need is volunteers. We currently have over 140 volunteers per year but need twice that amount to help decrease our staffing costs. We ask that facility volunteers commit to one, five-hour shift per week in three-month increments. In addition, we need a Board of Director members, phone team volunteers, maintenance crew, cleaning crew, and many other volunteer positions filled.

– We need food and medical supplies to help care for our wild patients; this equates to at least $20,000 per calendar year.

– We need funds to continue our educational program; this equates to at least $4,000 per calendar year.

Our top needs:

1. Funding: Unrestricted – Payroll, this ensures the animals brought to us are properly cared for and equates to about $150,000 per year with expected increases. In addition, it allows us to contract with a veterinarian to help when animals need vet care. Upcoming increases in minimum wage will drive that number higher.

2. Volunteers – Board of Director members, phone team volunteers, maintenance crew, cleaning crew, and many other volunteer positions. During the busy spring and summer months, our facility needs more than 100 volunteers to help us properly care for the sick and injured wild animals brought to us.

3. Funding: Unrestricted – We need food and medical supplies to help care for our wild patients; this equates to at least $20,000 per calendar year.

4. Funding: Unrestricted – We need funds to continue our educational program; this equates to at least $4,000 per calendar year. We would like to improve our education team by purchasing additional educational items to use at all outreach events. This would be an additional $5,000.

5. Funding: Unrestricted – Unrestricted funding – mammal caging at our facility. We currently only have bird release aviaries and mammals go to home rehabilitators before release. We need mammal and raptor caging at our facility. This equates to over $20k.

How can I help?

DONATE

You can donate to Wildlife Care Association on Thursday, May 2, and making a gift with a credit or debit card. Donations as little as $15 make a big difference, and your gifts can help us win some of the $100,000 in prizes that are up for grabs! (If you’d like, starting Monday, April 15, you can schedule your gift in advance of Big Day of Giving, just so you don’t forget!)

CREATE

Rally your networks to give during Big Day of Giving with a fundraising campaign! Starting April 8, click the “Create a Campaign” button on Wildlife Care Association’s profile at www.bigdayofgiving.org/wildlifecareassociation and build a personal campaign to encourage your friends to give, too. Share the link with your friends and family, so their gifts contribute to your campaign!
